My Story
Sick and Stuck
By the time I hit my 20s, I found myself with health issues that were bad and rapidly getting worse. Frequent infections, unending gut problems (bloating, nausea, food sensitivities, etc.), constant full-body pain, hair loss, fatigue, poor sleep, brain fog, headaches for days…My body was a mess.
This went on for a while, and I was barely functioning. It was to the extent that to brush my teeth, I had to sit on the bathroom floor because I couldn’t stand for that long. It was only a matter of time before my health issues reached a breaking point. And so they did. Ultimately, I physically collapsed and was bedridden for days. My body was in complete crisis, and I was desperate for help.
Unfortunately, although I tried, I didn’t find the help I was looking for. I needed answers but no one seemed to have any. I went to different practitioners. Tried different protocols. But it was like they were throwing ideas at a wall, hoping something would stick. I was tired of the guesswork. I wasn’t getting information I could use, and I was only getting worse.
Getting Answers
Around this time, I graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences. From what I had learned about the human body, I knew I needed to support MY body and its specific needs. Not try “what usually works.” Building on from my science background, I started to learn as much as I could about functional health. I began getting any functional lab work done that I could in order to analyze it. Then, by diving deep into my health history, symptoms, and the labs, I was able to discover areas in my body I could work on repairing. Over time, many issues came to light, such as severe GI dysfunction and gut dysbiosis, lurking infections, hormone imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and a struggling immune system. Organs like my thyroid and liver were limping along, rather than working optimally.
“Test, don’t guess” is often said in the functional health world, and I saw for myself how effective that methodology is. With insight from my labs, I could make much more targeted changes in my diet, lifestyle, exercise, and supplementation to improve my health. I still had a long way to go, both with my recovery and my knowledge of functional health - but with these changes I felt better than I had in three years of guesswork.
My journey to optimal wellness is still ongoing, but my health issues taught me a lot. One of the most important realizations from it all was that running the right type of labs, as well as the knowledge to put all the pieces together, is crucial to restoring health.
Empowered Health Building
I decided to become a functional health expert, in order to provide answers to those who are also “sick and stuck.” I continued my education through the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® program. A key takeaway from this program is one which my own experiences attest: our body has an amazing ability to heal, if we give it the right tools. Now, my mission is to educate and guide others, so they too can find the exact tools they need to build up their health. I know how frustrating it is to try so many things - yet still be stuck in the same place with your health issues. I don’t want you to feel like you have to be OK with not feeling OK.
You can get answers to your health questions. You can get help that is effective and targeted to you and your concerns. You can feel better.
